Black Elegance is the best description of Black Wall Street on Little Africa or a mini-Beverly Hills. Black Wall Street is where the dollar circulated 36 to 1000 times sometimes taking a year for the currency to leave the community. In 2010, the black dollar leaves the black community in 4 minutes. As far as resources, Ph.D’s lived in little Africa. There were many black attorneys and doctors including Dr. Berry who owned the bus system, earning $500 a day in 1910. There were also several black doctors that owned in total 4 medical schools, pawn shops, brothels, jewelry stores, 21 churches, restaurants, two movies theaters, and at least six black families owned their own private planes-- a fascinating community. The area encompassed 620 businesses 36 sq blocks with a population of 15,000 African- Americans. The average black student had such a high moral standard they wore a suit and tie to school.
Coming together in the spirit of the Tulsa Oklahoma Black Wall Street business community, we move forward and take responsibility to sustain and increase black businesses. President Barack Obama has emphasized the need for economic solutions for America that help main street just as well as Wall Street. We declare your city as the next Black Wall Street. Our action goal is to help strengthen present and future churches, ministries or businesses in their ability to be self sufficient.
